Not Everything Is Trash

WasteMatch is committed to keeping reusable items out of landfills.

In short

WasteMatch offers Donation Pickup on every junk removal booking: you flag items you'd like donated, your assigned pro makes the final call on site about whether an item genuinely qualifies, and approved items are dropped at a trusted local donation center instead of the landfill - with a photo of the donation receipt saved to your booking. Working electronics go to a specialized e-waste facility instead. Mattresses and box springs are never eligible for donation.

Why this matters: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reports that Americans generated 292.4 million tons of municipal solid waste in 2018 and only 32.1% was recycled or composted, while roughly half was landfilled. Furniture and furnishings alone accounted for 12.1 million tons, with over 80% of it landfilled (EPA Durable Goods data). These national figures show why reuse and donation deserve consideration before disposal, when an item is genuinely suitable for another owner.

Our principle

Why we do this

One of our operating principles is to steward resources wisely, and a landfill is the least wise place to put a couch, a dresser, or a bike that somebody else could still use. Hauling is easy to do carelessly: everything goes in the truck, everything goes to the dump, nobody asks a question. We'd rather ask the question.

This isn't a marketing program or a separate green service with a surcharge. It's an option built into the normal booking flow, and a standing instruction to our pros: if something still has life in it, take it somewhere it'll be used. We're not going to publish diversion statistics we haven't actually measured - we'd rather tell you exactly what the process is and let you hold us to it.

The process

How Donation Pickup works

Four steps, all inside the booking you already made.

  1. 01

    You flag it at booking

In the booking flow, there's a simple option to ask that anything still in good condition be donated instead of dumped. No extra cost, no separate service to book.

  2. 02

Your pro makes the on-site call

Once your pro sees the item in person, they make the final judgment on whether it genuinely qualifies. Donation centers turn away items that are broken, soiled, or unsafe, so this call has to happen in person - not from a photo.

  3. 03

Approved items go to a donation center

If it qualifies, your pro drops the item at a trusted local donation center instead of the landfill. Working electronics take a different route - they go to a specialized e-waste facility.

  4. 04

    You get proof

Your pro photographs the donation receipt, and the photo is attached to your booking record so you can pull it up any time.

One hard exclusion: mattresses and box springs. WasteMatch does not route used mattresses or box springs to donation centers. Acceptance policies differ by facility, so we handle these items through the appropriate disposal or recycling route available for the job.

Electronics and hard-to-recycle items

These are trusted local donation and recycling centers we work with in the Atlanta area. We're not claiming a formal partnership or affiliation with any of them - they're simply where reusable items go instead of the landfill, and where each organization's own acceptance rules apply.

The WasteMatch Team — Atlanta haulers & dispatchers

WasteMatch was built by people who did the removals themselves — one pickup truck and a borrowed trailer, hauling junk for Atlanta neighbors on nights and weekends. We started the platform to fix what we kept running into: vague estimates, no-shows, and week-long waits. Our team runs dispatch and the hauler network, and sets the pricing and payout standards every job on WasteMatch follows.

We review environmental statistics against the cited EPA data and keep WasteMatch process claims limited to practices the team can document.
